However, new reports claimed that "Star Wars" followers will have to wait a little longer as Lucasfilm and Disney announced on Tuesday that the release date of "Star Wars: Episode 8" will be pushed back in December 2017.
CNN Money reported that fans will have to spend their holidays watching the much-anticipated eighth installment of "Star Wars." Yes, you read it right. Instead of hitting theatres on May 26, 2017, "Star Wars: Episode 8" will be out for showing on Dec. 15, 2017.
Entertainment Weekly shared that "Star Wars: Episode 8" was supposed to start shooting in U.K. this month. However, with the recently-announced delay, the filming will be moved in February.
Lucasfilm revealed that the company is expecting the same rate of victory that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has received when it hit theaters last year. With the success of the latest "Star Wars" episode, Lucasfilm is replicating the same release date for "Star Wars: Episode 8."
With this shocking move, some reports about "Star Wars: Episode 8" being pitted with "Avatar 2" has spread like wildfire. Forbes reported that the two highly-anticipated movies will be rivalling each other on December 2017 in the blockbuster arena.
