The royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their first child Monday, July 22. On the same day, 21 years back, Mandy Cornett and husband Ricardo Joel Gomez welcomed a little girl who went on to become one of the most talented singers of the U.S. It was Selena Gomez.
Sharing birthdays with the royal baby is not an opportunity everyone gets, and according to media reports, Gomez was considerably surprised with her new status.
During the launch of her Dream Out Loud fall collection for Kmart in New York, E! News captured the "Come& Get It" singer's reaction to the news.
"How crazy is that?! I share my birthday with the royal baby, that's crazy!" she told the channel.
"I'm never going to forget that ever in my life," Gomez continued. "Everyone's going to say happy birthday to me and I'm going to be like, 'But honestly, it's the royal baby's birthday.' That's what I'm going to say."
Gomez also revealed how she managed to get regular updates on the royal baby's arrival Monday. "It's crazy, I thought that was so cool," she said. "I was doing press the actual day of my birthday, so they were telling me and they were keeping me updated [on the birth] and it was cool. I'm honored."
Gomez was born in Texas, 1992 and is Cornett's only child with husband Ricardo Joel Gomez. However, the couple legally separated when Gomez was 5 years old. Mandy, who was a former stage actress, married Brian Teefey in 2006. Gomez welcomed her half-sister in June.
Anyhow, Gomez is definitely not the only one to share birthdays with the Prince of Cambridge, George Alexander Louis. The list includes renowned fashion designer Oscar de la Renta (1932), singer- songwriter and founder of "Eagles" band Don Henley ( 1947), teen actress Madison Pettis who is well known for her role in Disney Channel's "Cory in the House" (1998), the "Saturday Night Live" actor David Spade (1964), the "Pretty Little Liars" fame Keegan Allen (1989), New Zealand motor racer Scott Dixon (1980), actor Rob Estes who appeared as Harry Wilson on TV series "90210" (1963), "Broadcast News" actor Albert Brooks (1947) and actor Orson Bean (1928).
Spanish actress Penelope Cruz and husband Javier Bardem; singer Hillary Scott and husband Chris Tyrrell are the other two celebrities who became new parents the same day, Kate Middleton and Prince William became parents for the first time.
