Two dogs were seen crying and fighting for their lives during the blizzard when their owner left them freezing outside. The Brooklyn dog owner in Crown Heights, June Wiggins, poorly left her two pit bulls outside her house during the cold Saturday night.
As posted on the Daily News, Evelyn Costa, Wiggins' neighbor, filmed the video which showed how the poor dogs whimpered all night during the cold temperature. She also asserted that the owner is really unapproachable and the dogs were also abused for years already.
Upon the request of the concerned neighbor, policemen visited Wiggins on Saturday to tell the women to bring her dogs inside the house but on Sunday when they came back, the dogs; 15-year-old named Egypt and a 14-year-old named Prince, who is blind, were out in the extreme cold again. The cops issued a C-summons to the dog owner, which could lead her to stay in jail for 15 days after another violation according to Fox13. They also added that she would lose her pets if she will not give them comfort inside her house. Costa even pointed out that the dogs were not used as protection as the owner claimed, they are used like an alarm clock whenever there is fire.
Additionally, the dogs' living conditions are not really ideal but it does not meet the definition of animal cruelty according to law according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), an organization that was found because they thought that animals are entitled to be taken care of and must be given respectful treatment by humans. On the other hand, PETA believes that dogs must be considered as family members and should not be left alone outside to suffer the freezing temperatures. For neglected dogs that are enforced to live outside, PETA builds and delivers hundreds of durable, straw-filled doghouses, providing them with the shelter they need.
