Families normally huddle indoors in order to escape raging blizzards. However, for the Smiths, they felt fortunate to have chosen to go out of their homes just when the blizzard was about to strike, as they were able to save a frozen piglet from dying.
Covered in a blanket of snow, the little piglet who was named "Wee Wee," was almost awaiting death when the Smiths found him at the side of the road. Having gone out of their home to head to a Pennsylvania ski resort, the Smiths had to delay their plans due to a snowstorm.
When the family decided to go to a hotel instead, the father, Perry Smith, noticed a frozen piglet covered in snow. Tugged by the pitiful condition of the piglet, he told his family that they would have to take in the pig, Metro News reported.
What was initially meant to be a trip to a ski resort, became a heroic rescue effort of a hapless frozen piglet. The whole family helped to get Wee Wee out of the snow and brought him to their hotel room.
Yahoo News provided some info on how the piglet recovered. The Smiths wrapped the piglet in a sweatshirt and thawed it in the hotel tub. They tried to give it milk that very night, yet the piglet refused.
The following morning, the piglet heartily ate cereal and water, along with some fruits. Since the Smiths could not take in the pig, they brought it to Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary, where more than 50 pigs are being taken care of.
The Smiths have documented their rescue effort and have posted pictures of Wee Wee in their hotel. The Smiths may not be having Wee Wee as their pet, but they will surely drop by at the animal sanctuary every now and then to check on the rescued piglet.
