After months of promotion, Fox has finally released its new series "Lucifer" on Jan. 25 and the reviews are in. This stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar.
It is the TV adaptation of a comic book drama that is about the devil -- only this time, without its stereotyped character that involves the burning hell, a huge fork and a tail while wearing a black cape. Instead, he is more interested about the weaknesses that humans experience and another odd thing is what do they have on their music playlist. But it makes sense since the Bible mentioned Lucifer's character, as some sort of a musician when he used to work for God Almighty.
Going back to the show, the pilot has surprised its viewers since the devil's character here was not what the audience expected him to be. In an interview he had with Variety, he opened up about how he worked hard on recreating the new and atypical character of the devil. He said, "I didn't want to make him arch in any way. I just felt like the more human I could make him, the more accessible it would be to people as well."
As for the plot, it is about Lucifer who everyone knows as the Lord of Hell. He got bored one day that he decided to leave his kingdom in hell for Los Angeles to help the LAPD, as they inflict such penalty to outlaws. He is not exactly a cop. If anything, he is cop-adjacent.
TV.com has a lot of praises for the show saying it is the type of series that would make the audience hate it at first, but would eventually grow on them to the point of "settling for a numbness with brief bouts of enjoyment."
The show will feature more music as the episodes go on.
