It has been almost seven years since "Prison Break" wrapped up its series finale in 2009 with an episode entitled "The Old Ball and Chain; Free Part 2." Many fans were delighted when Fox announced that a reboot of the series was being created.
In an earlier interview with Fox co-chairman Dana Walden, it has been revealed that the events in "Prison Break" Season 5 will take place before the movie finale and right after Season 4.
"I would describe it as a bit of a sequel. It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show," she said, according to Express.
This meant that Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) will still be alive when the reboot premieres on the small screens. Examiner noted that many fans have been speculating on possible theories behind Michael's return in the series.
According to the publication, many fans believe that Michael has faked his own death at the end of Season 4 and that it had something to do with his brain tumor. However, series creators revealed that Michael's return will not have anything to do with his brain tumor and instead, it will become a part of a major twist.
Meanwhile, fans will still to wait longer for the release date of "Prison Break" Season 5, as the aforementioned publication reported that there are still a bit of problems with regards to the cast.
Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, who play the roles of Michael and Lincoln respectively, are still busy with their roles on "The Flash" and a prior commitment to the "Legends of Tomorrow."
Sara Wayne Callies is also in talks of joining the reboot for her role of Sara Tancredi and Robert Knepper for the role of "Prison Break" big bad T-Bag.
