Sony made an announcement on Tuesday, Jan. 26 that it is creating a new company that will take care of all its PlayStation products. All of those will be handled under the new name, Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC. Andrew House was appointed as the president and international CEO of the new company as reported by Engadget.
The new company handles all PlayStation hardware and software deals along with the PlayStation Store and Sony services such as the PlayStation Vue. Shuhei Yoshida will remain with his work as the Head of Worldwide Studios, but will have Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, as his supervisor.
Sony's goal this time for PlayStation includes retaining and expanding user engagement with its consoles to increase its average revenue in sales. It is confident that this new name will help in the expansion of its product as it delivers an advanced experience through their top-of-the-line games and network services around the world.
Layden is confident that this new company name would even create a stronger brand for the gaming console.
In line with the new name, Sony also decided to move its headquarters from Japan to the United States. Fortune Online confirmed this information as the company sees the importance of their location affecting the American market with regard to the gaming industry.
Sony Interactive Entertainment is the combination of the company's other businesses namely Sony Computer Entertainment, which is based in Tokyo, Japan and Sony Network International, which is based in San Mateo, California. The new name will officially be launched on April 1.
Engadget also reported that Sony has had its own financial struggle for quite some time that it had to sell its computer line, VAIO while its mobile department also couldn't catch a break. The good news is that its cameras and PlayStation are the ones that have helped the company continue to do its business.
