The favorite digital music service Spotify heard their fans cry as they are about to launch video and podcast. Android users can now enjoy viewing clips of their favorite show while iOS patrons will soon experience the new feature.
According to Android Police, the company started to add video content along with genre and moods, new releases, charts, discover and other stuff. In fact, the beta version has been carrying video and podcast for quite awhile now, over six months, for a "long-standing" test, but the feature will now be used by the nonbeta subscribers.
It has been announced in May that Spotify's partner networks are ABC, NBC, Comedy Central, the BBC, Conde Nast, Fusion, Maker Studio, TED and Vice News. The Wall Street Journal added, via Gizmodo, that the video content is starting to roll out this week while it will be available in iOS "by the end of next week" in countries, like U.S., U.K., Germany and Sweden.
In fact, Spotify earlier explained last year how their new service will work out, but nothing beats experiencing in actual with the beta testing. It will offer "contextually relevant videos," which will be based on the kind of music the subscriber is listening to.
Also, there will be short playlists of video content to watch in a package. As WSJ suggested, there will be "News of the Week" or "Laughs at Lunch."
However, there will be a tight competition between Spotify and YouTube and, also, from Deezer. "Obviously, our primary user is a music fan, and they are not necessarily leaning in and looking into the app," the vice president of product Shiva Rajaraman told WSJ.
However, the video content will just be available for mobile users. However, the good news is a subscription is not needed to experience the new feature at its launch.
