'Famous Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Partnership' Release Date & Update: BBC 'Sherlock' Benedict Cumberbatch Rivaled By Nintendo’s Sherlock Pikachu

Pokemon's 20th year anniversary activities saw the debut of an impressive Pokemon Super Bowl advertisement. It is the first advertisement by The Pokemon Company in the famous NFL championship half-time.

Now, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo reveal another winning Pokemon surprise. BBC "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch can hang his Sherlock Holmes hat now that Pokemon's Pikachu is ready to take over the role. In a Nintendo game, that is.

According to The Verge, Pikachu will be seen, complete with Sherlock Holmes' deerstalker hat, in his very own special edition of Nintendo 3Ds bundle adventure/detective game. In the game's detecting universe, Sherlock Pikachu will be chattier with an expanded and cheeky vocabulary that is a big leap from his usual all-purpose "Pika."

However, the words will be in Japanese and news over an English version of the game is now very highly awaited, thanks to the game's trailer which has a very Sherlock feel to it.

Engadget reports that the game title translates as "Famous Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Partnership." Sherlock Pikachu will be accompanied in his mystery-solving exploits by a character named Tim.

Sherlock Pikachu first came into existence a few years ago. The initial revelation never had a follow through. However, the great Pokemon detective was all but forgotten when the game missed a 2015 release.

All the same, the reappearance of the "Famous Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Partnership" comes at a good time, especially with all the hype of the media franchise's 20th anniversary. Word is that The Pokemon Company also has a Pokemon mobile game and a Pokemon fighting game on Wii U in the offing.

"Famous Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Partnership" will be released as a download-only for Nintendo 3DS on February 3. The game is priced at $12.50 (JPY1,500).
