"Narcos" season 2 release date rumors are hinting at a possible delay for the upcoming run of the Netflix series. As fans await more details about the new season, TV execs are reportedly putting all their efforts to make things work behind the cameras.
According to latest reports, the show is left without a showrunner. "Showrunner Adam Fierro is stepping down from the series," Entertainment Weekly reported. "He previously replaced season 1 showrunner Chris Brancato, who stepped down earlier this year."
However, the article did mention that writer-producers Jose Padilha and Eric Newman will be returning to help helm the upcoming run with a trusted pool of writers.
Apart from having no one at the showrunner seat, cast and crew are reportedly also having problems with the second season's plot. Season 1 was a success, but it covered a lot of years in Pablo Escobar's life.
"Making things worse is that season 2 of Narcos was already a delicate knot to tackle," iDigital Times reported.
"Season 1 of the show spanned almost a decade in telling its story, with years sometimes passing between chronological episodes. However, due to where season 1 ended in regards to Escobar's actual timeline, season 2 only has a relatively short period of time to focus on, ranging roughly from Escobar's escape from La Catedral in 1992 to his death on the rooftops of Medellín in 1993."
Meanwhile, executive producer Eric Newman shared Escobar's fate in season 2. "He will die," he said according to Slash Film.
"The design of the show is we told 15 years of history in season one. At the point of Escobar's escape which is the summer of 1992, Escobar has 18 months to live. That's not something we can change. To stretch that out beyond another season would be disingenuous of us. That story was always designed to have an ending," he added.
The upcoming run is slated for an August 2016 release.
