Michael Schumacher's 16-year old son Mick Schumacher will be competing in the final round of the Formula 2000 MRF Challenge in India. Without doubt, Mick Schumacher is making his seven-time Formula One champion father proud with his blossoming career in motorsport.
The youngster is poised for his own Formula One career. According to Autosport, Mick Schumacher came in 10th place during last season's German Formula 4 Championship. The MRF round in India concludes a series of rounds, which were raced in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Dubai respectively.
Two-time Formula One champion, Brazilian Emerson Fittipaldi's grandson Pietro Fittipaldi is currently in the lead, closely followed by Colombian entry Tatiana Calderon and Russian driver Nikita Troitskiy. Economic Times reports that Belgian Alessio Picariello and Indian Tarun Reddy are also in the top six competing in the championship.
An earlier report from the Mirror said that automotive giants Mercedes and Ferrari are actually interested in Michael Schumacher's son. Mick Schumacher was invited to join a Mercedes event in December last year. The event featured Formula One drivers, British Lewis Hamilton and German Nico Rosberg.
A Mercedes spokesperson expressed the German brand's intention for the invitation. "We asked Mick because of the close relationship between Mercedes and his family," the representative said. "It's a great learning experience for him."
In the meantime, Pope Francis himself is praying for Michael Schumacher, who is recovering from brain injuries that resulted from a skiing accident two years ago. Mick Schumacher was with his father at the time of the accident.
According to The Telegraph, F1 President Jean Todt said that Pope Francis asked after Michael Schumacher's health and condition when Pope Francis visited the F1 headquarters. He was supposed to view a road safety campaign video at the headquarters. Pope Francis then told Todt that he will be praying for Schumacher's recovery.
