$10,500 Returned by Goodwill Worker

A Goodwill worker returned $10,500 which she found while sorting out a pile of donatd items at a store in Stockton, California, according to a report by News10 released Thursday.

Goodwill employee, Lakeisha Williams, said she found an envelope with $10,500 along with old sweaters and toasters.

She admitted that there was a second where she thought of keeping the money but then figured out that someone out there must be in need of it.

Williams decided to return the envelope with the money to her supervisor who has been contacting potential customers who may have either left it in their store or lost it.

According to 23 ABC News, no one has claimed the money as of late. Meanwhile, Goodwill President David Miller said in an interview that if no one would claim the $10,500 within three months, Williams would be rewarded 10% of it.

Williams expressed little disappointment that his bosses in Goodwill did not consider giving her any reward for exercising honesty when she could have easily ran off with the said amount.

Williams said that it's been one month since she found the alleged envelope but was never rewarded for her honest gesture. Williams wasn't aware of Goodwill's policy to keep accidentally donated large amounts of money in an account that would give owners time to reclaim it if they wish to do so.

Goodwill's president David Miller said that it is not very unusual for Goodwill employees to practice honesty and best judgment in times like this.

Right now, Williams and her husband are struggling to get their fitness business to the level they like. Williams, who is a fairly new Goodwill employee, said that if she is rewarded with 10% of the $10,500 she found, the amount would automatically go to growing their business.
