"Avatar 2" is already confirmed as Sigourney Weaver is going to have a new role. Aside from that, film director James Cameron has a little treat for the epic fantasy film's fans as he announced that there are two more sequels coming.
Inquisitr reported that "Avatar 2," "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" will be respectively released on 2017, 2018 and 2019. These three films will be all filmed back-to-back as they are already working the script of the second installment.
Additionally, the 66-year-old actress will be included in the next new movies. To recall, in the first film, her character as Dr. Grace Augustine died, so she will be brought to life with a different role.
In fact, the 61-year-old filmmaker revealed his plans for Weave on Avatar's official website. "Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made "Aliens." We're good friends who've always worked well together, so it just feels right that she's coming back for the "Avatar" sequels."
"Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she's playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films," he added. "We're both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration."
Meanwhile, Cameron told Montreal Gazette that he is targeting "Christmas of 2017" as the released date of "Avatar 2." "At least, that's what we've announced. But I don't consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart," he said.
He even cleared that each movie from the trilogy is a standalone film. However, the succeeding movies will tell a bigger story about the alien world of Pandora. He also revealed that the infrastructure for the film is already done as well as technological developments and stages, the writings are almost complete and the filming of "Avatar 2" will start to role in no time.
