‘The Mummy’ Cast, News and Update: Tom Cruise Officially Signed, Will Be Released On A Later Date

The present day remake of "The Mummy" would be later launched on June 2017 instead of the first plan March 24 of the said year. However, the Brendan Fraser original movie was confirmed to be starred with Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella.

Since the 53-year-old officially signed as the lead actor of the horror-adventure film, Universal Pictures decided to move its release to a later date. However, according to Business Standard News, news about the flick's plot is still under wraps as their specific characters are not yet revealed.

But, it has been said that a female mummy will be the villain and the "mummy" story will start when an ex-Navy Seal accidentally stumbled on an old tomb. Additionally, "The Mummy" reboot is set to be directed by Alex Kurtzman with a screenplay of Jon Spaights, who also wrote "Prometheus."

"The Mummy" would be the start of the many remakes as planned by Universal Pictures. The studio is planning to create an "interconnected universe" of their classic series, like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, and vampire hunter Van Helsing.

It would be an Avengers-like style, which would let Cruise be seen in another tie-ins movie. As rumors have it, Bloody Disgusting reported he might be named "Van Helsing" and chances are, he might do the film of the famed monster slayer.

That is, if ever, the movies like "Frankenstein and his Bride," the "Wolf Man," the "Creature from the Black Lagoon" and even the "Invisible Man" back hit the theaters. There have been hearsays that Scarlett Johansson might do the 1954 American black-and-white 3D monster and horror film while they are eyeing Angelina Jolie as the wife of the classic monster.

Meanwhile, the 42-year-film director would also be alongside Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel. Cruise won't be the producer of the film this time, but will take part with developments, Variety added.
