Adele vs Donald Trump: GOP Candidate Has No Permission To Use 'Rolling In The Deep,' 'Skyfall,' Other Adele Songs In Campaign?

GOP's Donald Trump has been trying to solidify his Presidential poll lead by wooing voters with Adele's songs. The Republican candidate repeatedly tried to underline his "Make America Great Again" campaign slogan with Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" refrain "We could have had it all." "When it crumbles, we will stand tall, face it all together" from Adele's "Skyfall" is one another campaign highlighter that Trump used.

According to The Independent, Trump's tactic distressed many of Adele's fans, who refused to have her music associated with the unpopular values that Trump had been endorsing. To their relief, Adele finally made a statement to distance herself from Trump and his campaign and to let the public know that Trump cannot actually use her music.

"Adele has not given permission for her music to be used for any political campaigning," Adele's spokesperson told The Independent.

The Independent also noted that Adele's fans were quick to rally and point out that "You're gonna wish you never had met me" in "Rolling In the Deep" and "This is the end" in "Skyfall" are more suited for Trump's campaign.

Trump is not the only candidate trying to get an edge by hijacking pop culture. Mike Huckabee's Twitter and YouTube posts of a cover of Adele's "Hello" with the lyrics changed to tell the story of the Iowa caucus and Huckabee's rivals. Copyright issues have since silenced the posts.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler went one step further than Adele and actually sent cease-and-desist letters in October last year, ordering Trump to stop using Tyler's "Dream On." Tyler refused to be associated with Trump's campaign.

According to Gossip Cop, however, Trump later on bought the rights to use Tyler's "Dream On." "The Trump organization obtained public performance licenses from both ASCAP and BMI which cannot decline a public performance license even when a songwriter may not approve of the use," Tyler's lawyer said. Nonetheless, Trump stopped using "Dream On" as respect to Tyler, who is friends with Trump.
