Baby Monitor Hacked in Houston; Parents assure that Internet Router was Password Protected (VIDEO)

Baby monitors are no longer safe. They can also be hacked!

A couple based in Houston, Texas recently reported that their baby monitor was hacked last week. They have been using the monitor for the past two years now.

Mark Gilbert and his wife realized that the monitor was hacked when they heard a strange voice coming from their daughter Allyson's room. The monitor was kept in the area, KTRK reported.

"It felt like somebody broke into our house," Gilbert told KTRK.

The couple was shocked to learn that the hacker was using abusive language addressing the sleeping Allyson.

"He said, 'Wake up, Allyson, you little (expletive),'" Gilbert added to the website.

The hacker learnt the little girl's name as it was written on her room's wall. According to the report, the hacker had a "British or European accent."

The two-year-old couldn't hear anything because she has a listening disability and can only hear with the assistance of a cochlear implant. The device was turned off when the incident happened.

Gilbert disconnected the baby monitor immediately. He is still wondering how this happened as both his internet router and IP camera were password protected.

"The router was password protected and the firewall was enabled," Gilbert wrote, while clearing the doubts of readers.

Apart from Allyson, the couple has a three-year-old son, Ethan. The incident has forced the couple to stop using the monitor that was an unavoidable part of their life until then.

"I don't think it ever will be connected again," he told ABC News. "I think we are going to go without the baby monitor now."
