'Mr. Robot' Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Update & Spoiler: 'American Horror Story' Actress Grace Gummer Joins Rami Malek, Christian Slater

Sam Esmail's "Mr. Robot" Season 1 left a huge mess of a hack by the fsociety led by Rami Malek's Elliot. However, as an enterprise where fiction meets real life, "Mr. Robot" Season 2 will see the consequences of "Mr. Robot" Season 1.

"American Horror Story" actress Grace Gummer's entry into "Mr. Robot" Season 2 as an FBI agent is definitely going to play a lot of significance into how Season 2 will pan out.

According to Fashion & Style Grace Gummer will take on the role of FBI field agent Dominique "Dom" DiPierro, who will look into the misfortunes that fell upon Evil Corp. By the sounds of it, Malek will have his hands full.

"Now that the hack has happened, I actually think it's not just Evil Corp that will be, if you want to call them, antagonists, of fsociety," series creator Sam Esmail revealed to The Hollywood Reporter. "Now we're dealing with a much larger issue, and I think the law enforcement, in some way, will make a presence in season two, which I think is an interesting new group of characters to explore."

Esmail promised that Malek's character will face up to the results of what he and fsociety did in "Mr. Robot" Season 2. Entertainment Weekly reported that Malek confirmed this point at the SAG Awards party.

"Look there's definitely a fallout from what happened in season 1 and that will be broached," Malek said. "It's kind of sad and disturbing how we've been able to anticipate events that have happened in our culture in the world so I assume that that will continue to happen but you can never predict the future and how distressful it might be, so as much as I think we have the ability to capture that, I hope that we don't, but that would be naive."

Esmail also went into what the heart of "Mr. Robot" Season 2 will be. "Specifically, the battle between he and Mr. Robot, who is going to continue on, and how does that manifest," Esmail disclosed. "How does that dramatize? What does that look like? That's really going to be the meat of the season as this inner conflict between Elliot and himself."

In the meantime, Malek has been working hard at preparing for "Mr. Robot" Season 2 as he anticipates the story's inroad into Malek's character's mental illness and psychosis. He continues to be impressed by how much the show has mirrored much of the goings on in real-life society.

"I feel like I've been preparing [for season 2] ever since, I think I took a few days off, but it just never leaves your head," Malek said. "When something has such a massive effect on our culture, you can't step too far away from it."

"We're going to shoot everything as if we're shooting a movie so just jumping around from episode to episode, which seems very daunting but we have one director for the entire season, Sam Esmail, our creator," Malek said further.

Unsurprisingly, "Mr. Robot" earned a lot of attention, including a Best Drama Series award from the Golden Globes and a Best Actor in a Drama Series award from the Critics' Choice Awards. "Mr. Robot" Season 2 will open in the U.S. this summer.
