'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Director JJ Abrams Gives Public Support to Hillary Clinton: Democratic And Independent Women Voters Disagree

Joining the fray is "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams, who has publicly endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Clinton is not the first politician to get support from Abrams. In October, Abrams hosted a fundraising dinner, a Q&A with President Obama, at $33,400 per ticket for Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

As the Daily Beast reports, Abrams and his wife Katie McGrath are among the stronger supporters for the Democrats. "I will say we are supporting Hillary," Abrams said. "We believe in her as the strongest candidate. She does have the experience and the politics. She is compassionate, and right."

"When I look at the people who need the support that aren't necessarily getting it, I believe that she would provide that," Abrams said further. "That is really the way that we have to approach how we vote: Look around and ask yourself, who needs to be brought up? Who needs to be emphasized? Who needs compassion? And I find that that's something that she's got."

Just after "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" smashed the box office, Hillary Clinton closed her December 19 Democratic debate in New Hampshire with a "Star Wars" reference. "Thank you, goodnight, and may the Force be with you."

The Daily Beast proposed that this was purposely timed with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as an acknowledgement of Abrams and his wife Katie, who each donated $500,000 to Clinton-supporting super PAC Priorities USA earlier in the year.

The Independent reports that, despite the popularity of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and its director J.J. Abrams per USA TODAY/Rock, the Vote poll Clinton's Democratic rival Bernie Sanders is 19 percent ahead of Clinton. This gives 50 percent to Sanders and 31 percent to Clinton, thanks to Democratic and independent women voters aged 18 to 34. The Independent points out that Sanders' campaign has a strong support for young women voters, a factor among other factors that Clinton's campaign lacks.

Sanders' celebrity donors include Danny DeVito, Justin Bartha, Mark Ruffalo, Will Ferrell, Ben Foster, Ezra Miller, Jeremy Piven, Flea, Anthony Kiedis, Killer Mike, Scarface, Steve Wozniak and Cornel West.

Clinton's donor roster also includes Amy Poehler, RuPaul, Snoop Dogg, Ariana Grande, 50 Cent, Kanye and Kim Kardashian West, Lena Dunham, Robert DeNiro, Pharrell Williams, Beyonce, Magic Johnson and Katy Perry.
