‘Power Rangers’ Cast, News & Update: Elizabeth Banks to Play as Supervillain? What You Need To Know

The upcoming "Power Rangers the Movie" will feature one of its iconic villains Rita Repulsa that will be played by Elizabeth Banks. The news was announced on Tuesday on the official Twitter page of the movie by posting the 41-year-old stars photo.

"How evil @ElizabethBanks joins the #PowerRangersMovie cast as the villainous, #RitaRepulsa," the caption read." The photo, on the other hand, featured a smiling actress, which has a label "Elizabeth Banks is Rita Repulsa."

It seems like the producer will be one of the key players in the movie adaptation of the 90s American television series, according to Cinema Blend. Also, she is the biggest name that has been included in the said film, so far.

It has been known that "Power Rangers the Movie" would be full of new faces as the main characters are newcomers. Dacre Montgomery will play the team leader as Jason Lee or The Red Ranger, he will be joined by RJ Cyler as Bill Cranston or The Blue Ranger and Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart or The Pink Ranger.

Also, fans of the superhero group will see Becky G. as Trini Kwan or The Yellow Ranger and Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor or The Black Ranger. It will be directed by Dean Israelite, who was known for his first movie "Project Almanac."

Moreover, Banks is known for the film "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and played as Dr. Kim for the TV series "Scrubs," Games Radar reported. She, too, voiced Wyldstyle of "The Lego Movie."

Her iconic roles as Effie Trinket in "The Hunger Games" and Gail Abernathy-McKadden in "Pitch Perfect" would be a good combination to play as the principal nemesis, Rita. "The Power Rangers the Movie" is set to be released on Jan. 13, 2017.
