Chinese Mothers Can Privately Breastfeed in 'Lactation Rooms' on Buses [PHOTO]

Chinese mothers using public transport can now privately breastfeed in what is being called "lactation rooms," as the country promotes breastfeeding.

According to the dailymail, the Chinese city of Zhengzhou has already begun the specially-designed seats on its public bus system. The "breast-feeding seat", has a curtain mothers can draw around them to breastfeed in privacy.

"We set up this special nursing seat considering the inconvenience and embarrassment mothers may feel when they need to feed babies on a bus. This proposal was put forward by one of our bus drivers," said Yang Chaoqun, publicity director of the Third Company of Zhengzhou Bus Communication Corporation.

Yang added there are six companies under the Zhengzhou Bus Communication Corporation and it has more than 6,000 buses. The Third Company has about 1,000 buses. "We want to make the No 906 bus our pilot project and collect responses from passengers. We plan to further expand the practice to more buses," Yang said.

Chinese breastfeeding moms can also make use of a mobile phone application to help mothers locate for the nearest nursing room in office buildings, shopping malls and other public buildings in the city of Shanghai.

This came after a number of women complained about the lack of private spaces to breastfeed, chinadaily.com.cn reported.

Breastfeeding is said to promote health for both mother and infant and helps to prevent illnesses such as the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. It also makes the children smarter, according to a study.
