An eight-year old girl who has the body of an infant could hold secrets to biological immortality, doctors told 9News.
Gabby Williams weighs only five kilograms and still needs to be cared for like a baby, a source told 9News.
Her mother, Mary, told US Network ABC that her daughter has not changed much throughout the past eight years of her life.
She said that Gabby got a little longer so she now fits into three to six-month footies instead of zero to three months.
According to 9News, Gabby's condition is very rare which is why it does not have a name.
Medical Researcher Richard F Walker told 9News that Gabby has what is known as slowed-down process of developmental inertia, a process that allows the body to grow and change as it ages.
He said, "Without that process, we never develop".
Dr. Walker also told 9News that developmental inertia causes the internal order in the body to progressively erode as people get older.
He stressed that if this condition can be identified it can lead to the discovery of a way to stop developmental inertia once people reach maturity.
9News said that this would mean that people can still fall victims to accidents and diseases but causes of death due to old age will no longer be present.
