Frugal Bride Just Spent $13,000 For Her Wedding And Everything Was Made From Scratch

A newlywed couple revealed that they just spent £9,000 (approximately $13,000) in their wedding and saved £10,000 (about $14,000) for making everything DIY. The couple planned their wedding in just eight months and managed to handcraft their wedding decorations from confetti to cake.

Bride Marrianne Mercer and groom David Miall chose a low-key type of wedding by making everything from scratch, the Daily Mail reported. The report also said that Mercer baked her own cake and the tulle that she used for the veil was also handmade by her mom.

Mercer said that handcrafting is really her passion. She also said that her wedding was her most favorite project out of any.

"Doing a DIY ceremony was really exciting," Mercer said. "After getting engaged, I had a real vision for the type of ceremony and reception I wanted to create for us. We chose a beautiful little village church, and a blank canvas village hall for the reception. I love color and so couldn’t resist a bright summer palette."

Sources also said that the bride also revealed that her family loved her idea that she even got a little help from them. While she crafted a total of 678 paper flowers and 400 pompoms for their decorations, Miall’s mother was in charge of making scented candles for their party favors. She also revealed that her guests brought treats such as cookies and cakes for their dessert table.

"Guests seemed to really like the decorations and the beauty of such a relaxed day," Mercer said. "It was bright and cheerful and we were very lucky to have a very sunny day so we were able to enjoy the outdoor decoration as well. Guests even took home some of the paper flowers as keepsakes. The local villagers were taken aback by all decorations too!"

The idea was such a hit that Mercer even published a book about handmade weddings titled as “My Handmade Wedding”. The book is now available for preorder with a retail price of £12.99 and will be launching in April 2016.
