"Creed 2" is reportedly underway, and lead stars Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan have both recently dished on the highly-anticipated sequel. The two actors who spoke to different publications about their views about the follow-up flick had their own views about what fans could expect in "Creed 2."
"Creed" was a surprise hit when it was released in November 2015. Not everyone expected it to gross more than $100 million domestically, much more be praised by critics for Sly and Michael's gripping performance. Now that the movie has definitely left a mark on audiences worldwide, MGM will not let the opportunity pass by without doing a sequel slated for 2017.
What can fans expect in "Creed 2?" Rocky Balboa himself has been very generous to share some initial details about the movie. For starters, Mr. Stallone dished on the return of Carl Weathers, who plays his iconic arch nemesis-turned-true-friend Apollo Creed. But before fans think that possible resurrection is underway, producers reportedly have a different approach to including him in the sequel.
"Stallone lights up when he reveals another idea they are considering: a 'Godfather II'-like sequel set in the past, before Apollo's death," Variety reported. The article continued to say that Sly even bumped into Carl recently and claimed he "looked as imposing as ever."
Meanwhile, Michael who plays Apollo's son in the movie has a different idea about the sequel. While he understands where Sylvester is coming from regarding a backstory on Apollo's death, he stressed the importance of the sequel having a "real villain."
"I think The Godfather take is super ambitious and awesome," the actor told IGN. "But when you're dealing with someone like [director] Ryan [Coogler] I think honestly he could pull off anything."
"So that's pretty cool. And honestly in Creed 1 we didn't have a real villain I don't think, so it would be kind of cool to have that antagonist character for Adonis to go up to and have some real animosity towards. That would be pretty cool."
