A tragic accident occurred this weekend in Utah when a 9-year-old girl was plunged 150-feet into the air as she stood on a trampoline and a gust of came over her, resulting in her death.
Oaklee Sidwell had been playing with friends on the trampoline in her backyard but all the other children had gotten off of it. Oaklee was sitting down to put on her shoes when the wind hit and sent the trampoline hurtling through the air, according to a Fox News report.
"All the precautions to have a safe trampoline for children to play on were met," said Cheryl Church, Garfield County sheriff's spokeswoman. "It was just a freak type thing that happened here, that the wind would come along and pick it up and carry her away."
She was the only child on the trampoline when a wind gust lifted it into the air and carried it approximately 50 yards, Church said.
Sidwell was taken by ambulance to Garfield Memorial Hospital and then transferred by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center, where she later died.
Church says it was a tragic, freak accident that has affected the entire county.
Speaking to The Salt Lake Tribune, she said: "She many people are feeling heartbreak for (the family). It's hard to even wrap your head around it.
A memorial page which was set up for Oaklee describes her as being "full of life."
An obituary describes Oaklee as an adventurous girl who loved to care for animals. A Zions Bank account has been set up in her name for anyone wishing to assist the family.
