The director of best-selling games "Fallout 4" and "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," Todd Howard, will receive next month a lifetime achievement award. The award is one of the most prestigious in gaming and it is awarded by game development peers.
Howard is a longtime employee of Bethesda. He entered the game developer's studio 22 years ago as a college student looking for a job. Nowadays, Howard is described as a "visionary developer" by GDC GM Meggan Scavio. He will receive a lifetime achievement award for his innovative contributions to game development.
Howard helped in pushing the open-world game industry forward with 3D graphics. The "Fallout" and "Elder Scrolls" series feature worlds filled with mystery and vast landscapes. The prestigious award will honor the visionary developer for his exquisite craft in creating these universes captivating by their details. The director has dedicated his creativity and work in making worlds that look "as real as anything on Earth," according to Scavio.
According to the website venturebeat.com, Howard is an artist gifted not only with the craft of making amazing video games but also in creating mainstream titles that sell well. His games generate billions of dollars for Bethesda Game Studios.
According to gamespot.com, Howard will receive the award at a ceremony in San Francisco, on March 16, during the Game Developers Choice Awards. "Fallout 4", his latest game, is also nominated for Game of the Year Award, while "Fallout Shelter" is nominated for Best Mobile Game.
In an interview in December, Howard declared that he is looking forward to creating new games. He might make some announcements of what he is going to work on next at Bethesda's E3 briefing this June, in Los Angeles.
Other GDC Lifetime Achievement Awards will be received by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Fable designer Peter Molyneux and BioWare founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, among others.
