At the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles, on Saturday, February 6, HBO leads the winners at the Directors of Guild America Awards. The premium network scored three wins with "Veep", "Games of Thrones" and "Bessie."
According to AceShowbiz, NBC follows with two wins, one for "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and the other for "Saturday Night Live." Disney Channel won with "Descendants" in Children's Programs.
The best documentary was won by Matthew Heineman for "Cartel Land", a documentary about fighting the drug cartels in the U.S./Mexican border. The Frank Capra Award was won by Mary Rae Thewlis and the special Franklin J. Schaffner Award was won by Tom McDermott. Among the celebrity attendees were Matt Damon, Joel Edgerton, Leonardo DiCaprio and Bryan Cranston.
David Nutter, the director of "Game of Thrones", won the Directors Guild drama series award for the "Mother's Mercy" episode and Dee Rees won the award for TV movie-miniseries with "Bessie."
Director Chris Addison won the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series for the "Election Night" episode of "Veep", according to Variety. Addison, Nutter and Reese were first-time winners at the Directors of Guild America Awards. However, Addison was absent from the ceremony.
The comedy series "Veep" is starring Anna Chlumsky as School Child, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Janette Cooper, Reid Scott, Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Sufe Bradshaw and Timothy C. Simons. The 5 season series is about a former Senator, Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who becomes vice president. She finds that being a vice president is everything everyone warned her about and nothing like she expected.
"Election Night" is the episode 10 from the season 4, aired on June 14, 2015. As the title suggests, the episode features the election night for the main protagonist Selina Meyer. As the race remains tight, she and her staff watch the election results. However, Selina's chances grow increasingly slim as more and more big states are called for her rival, O'Brien.
