Johnny Depp and Leonardo Dicaprio are two of Hollywood's biggest names, wherein they starred in numerous box office hits and continually make the headlines. But fame usually comes with a price; as for Leo, it comes with tough love and a little bit of torture from his 1993 film "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" co-star, Johnny Depp.
During his speech during the 31st annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Depp dished out some details in regards to the 1993 film wherein the worked with the 19 year old Leonardo Dicaprio.
Depp openly shared that he tortured Leo all throughout the shoot, as per People, but his tough love eventually worked, "It was a hard time for me, that film, for some reason. I don't know why, it was mostly really miserable. You can't really tell if the thing you're feeling at the time is coincidental. Did I have to be that way for the film?"
Depp then added that despite being hard on Leo, he does respect his passion and work ethic as he strives to be better. "I respect Leo a lot, he worked really hard on that film, researching and showing up ready to work, and I tortured him. I really did. I actually did."
As for Johnny Depp's career, the "Edward Scissorhands" actor shared his recipe for success. Depp also dished out his success stories wherein he stated that his flexibility as an actor is one of the biggest contributing factors that marked his success in the industry, according to Variety.
"When you're confined to a TV series and you have to play one character, it can make you insane," Depp said. "But it didn't affect me. I got out in time. I didn't want to be a salesman. I guess is what it was. So I tried to get fired a lot.
