Chicago Physician Accused of Posting Photos of Intoxicated Patient

A Chicago physician is being accused of posting photos of intoxicated patient to various social media sites, a source told ABC News.

Elena Chernyakova filed a lawsuit in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Vinaya Puppala, the Feinberg School of Medicine and the Northwestern Memorial Hospital claiming invasion of privacy and infliction of emotional distress.

Chernyakova claimed that after she was admitted to an Illinois hospital for extreme intoxication, a doctor there took photos of her and posted them to social media sites with comments about her condition.

The doctor allegedly asked to view her medical record and returned several hours later to take her photographs while she was on the hospital bed, crying and attached to an IV, ABC News reported.

These photos were then posted on Instagram and Facebook accompanied by "attached statements of commentary."

According to the complaint filed by Chernykova, Dr. Puppala refused to delete the photographs when he was asked to do so by hospital security.

The Northwestern Memorial Hospital released a statement saying that they are working with authorities with this investigation but emphasized that Puppala was acting entirely on his own.

Court documents showed that Chernykova has the potential of earning as much as $1.5 million
