The mysterious victim of amnesia has left California for Sweden on Tuesday and was welcomed by a woman from his past, according to USA Today.
Michael Boatwright, a 61-year old Navy Veteran from Florida woke up at a Palm Springs Hospital, speaking only Swedish and claimed he has forgotten everything about his past.
Boatwright arrived at the Gothenburg airport in Sweden where he was greeted by Ewa Espling, a woman who was part of his part but one that he could not remember.
Espling told USA Today that she was romantically involved with Boatwright for three years during the 80s, years before the latter was diagnosed with amnesia.
She also said that they once planned to marry.
Boatwright's plane ticket back to Sweden was purchased by the Riverside County California Department of Mental Health.
In a brief interview with the Desert Sun, Espling confirmed that she was there at the airport on Tuesday for Boatwright's arrival but refused to answer other questions thrown at her.
"Walk in my shoes for one day. You'll experience the nightmare of a lifetime," said Boatwright through a translator in July when the Desert Sun first released his story.
