OFF! Clip-On Device Prevents Bites From Zika Mosquitoes

A repellent device called OFF! Clip-On is a helpful tool for inhibiting bites from the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes which cause Zika virus, yellow fever, dengue and chikungunya, according to a new article in the Journal of Medical Entomology.

According to Science Daily, the Off! Clip-On device drives away the mosquitoes by discharging a vapor of insecticide using a battery powerful fan. Then it forms an insecticide "cloud" nearby the wearer of the device.

A study was conducted to test the effectiveness of the device. Christopher Bibbs and Rui-De Xue of the Anastasia Mosquito Control District in Florida fronted the study. They went outdoors and they found out that the repellent device instigated high mosquito mortality and has knockdown rates up to 0.3 meters from the device. This is enough to shield an individual who wears the device.

"In vector control, we see more often than not that tools available for consumers don't work for the intended purpose," Bibbs said. "Just look at all the bug zappers, repellent bracelets, sonic bug repellents, and other zany creations that wax and wane in popularity. Skepticism is inherent to the trade. But it was nice for a change of pace that one of these devices could actually do some good," he added.

"In light of recent evidence, I have taken more to thinking of such devices as "vapor active insecticides." Mosquito tends to be a delicate pest. What that means for us is that the low volume of vapor pushed by the OFF! Clip-On is enough to kill a mosquito that is determined to fly through the little protective cloud," Bibbs concluded.

OFF.com states that the Clip-On mosquito repellent can be a clip to your chair, purse or belt. It is a spray-less mosquito protection with a battery-powered fan that spreads odorless repellent in minutes. It will guard you from head to toes for up to 12 hours. You can use it while gardening, lounging at the beach, relaxing on your patio, unwinding at the park, camping and attending to sporting events.
