'Gotham' Season 2 Cast, Release Date, News: Tragedy Transforms Victor Fries, Penguin, Dr. Strange, Fish Mooney Join Mr. Freeze

"Gotham Season 2" has been treating fans with a generous helping of teasers for the show's return. From the introduction of B.D. Wong as Dr. Hugo Strange and Jada Pinkett-Smith's return as Fish Mooney roster of villainy grows for Gotham. More than anyone, however, Nathan Darrow's Victor Fries made a huge splash with the viewer's peek of Mr. Freeze during the "Gotham Season 2" midseason finale.

Collider quotes USA Today's interview with Darrow on his new role."When somebody has a great need, or let's say they have all of their investment in one thing and that thing is threatened or even destroyed, how does one go on," Darrow posited. "Maybe somebody pulls back or finds something else to care about. Or maybe that person gives in to a chaotic response that then really widens the rules of their life. I would maybe propose that villainy, as we're talking about it, is a way through extreme difficulty or is oddly a way to have things matter."

Darrow was referencing the misfortune upon Victor Fries and his wife Nora, which serves as the motivating factor for Fries' transition into the world of Mr. Freeze in "Gotham Season 2."

According to Screen Crush, the official "Gotham Season 2" press release described Victor Fries' transition for the show's midseason premiere. "Penguin takes a hit for Galavan's murder, but doesn't let Gordon off easily," the Gotham statement read.

"Meanwhile, Gordon and Bullock investigate the body-snatching spree of Victor Fries (guest star Nathan Darrow), one of Gotham's preeminent cryogenics engineers in the all-new "Rise of the Villains: Mr. Freeze" winter premiere episode."

TV Insider reports that BD Wong's turn as Arkham Asylum's Dr. Hugo Strange is no less suspenseful. Wong acknowledges Dr. Hugo Strange's madness as he spoke of the character's promotional image. "What [he] is doing in there is indeed very, very bad," Wong said. "Imagine the worst thing someone might do. Then multiply that by 10."

Dr. Hugo Strange poses as a psychologist in Arkham, his main agenda remains working for India Hill by conducting experiments on the patients in a bid to create and develop super humans.

When he crosses paths with Oswald "Penguin" Cobblepot, played by actor Robin Lord Taylor, Penguin's life will be changed forever."He is never the same from the moment he walks through the door," Wong promised of Penguin's fate.

"Gotham Season 2" returns on Fox on February 29.
