Canadian pop superstar Justin Beiber did not share much about his once close relationship with his mother, Pattie Mallette. In fact, he revealed that he is now a lot closer to his dad, Jeremy Beiber, than his mom.
"I'm a lot closer to my dad than I am to my mom," Justin stated in his new GQ cover story. He explained that his relationships with Pattie and Jeremy have remained "switched."
The 21-year old singer revealed that he "doesn't see her as much as I'd like to." Currently, Pattie has settled in Hawaii, while Jeremy is living in Ontario.
Justin's close bond with his mother was detailed in his hit 2011 documentary, Never Say Never. On one hand, Jeremy has been portrayed as an absentee father whom tabloids often referred to as "a bad influence."
However, Justin's relationship with his mom started to wane during his 2014 troubles. Last November, the singer revealed to Billboard that his relationship with Pattie has been "pretty non-existing" in the recent years. "I was distant because I was ashamed."
"I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was. We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust," Justin said in the Billboard interview.
Months after the revelation, Justin told GQ that nothing has changed. "You don't need them as much. And for them, it's like, you were all they had. Not all, but they were so invested in you."
"And then one day you're just gone, and you're doing your own thing, and you don't need them, and you don't value their opinion the same, either," Justin stated.
The hitmaker added that the only constant relationship in life is the one with God. "I feel like that's why I have a relationship with Him, because I need it."
"I've had people that burned me so many times. If we invest everything we have in a human, we're gonna get broken," he disclosed.
