Pope Francis is beloved by many people all over the world for being a compassionate leader and a champion of the poor. In an outdoor Sunday Mass attended by more than 300,000 people in Ecatepec, Mexico, the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church condemned the drug trade that has become rampant in Mexico.
According to Yahoo News, Pope Francis also denounced the violence and greed among the criminals and the corrupt. "Let us get it into our heads: With the devil, there is no dialogue," the Pope said during the mass.
Pope Francis also tried to strengthen the hope of the people in Ecatepec, which is a Mexico City suburb filled with poverty, violence, kidnappings and assassinations. "Kidnappings, robberies and drugs have all increased, and he is bringing comfort," a 56-year-old woman who attended the mass commented. "His message will reach those who need it so that people know we, the good people, outnumber the bad."
The Pope also gave a warning for the rich and corrupt people in Mexico. He said that obsession with seeking material riches and wealth can make a person vulnerable to different kinds of corruption and crimes against other people, according to PBS. He also visited a hospital to personally comfort and talk with sick patients, especially children.
In the final prayer during the mass, Pope Francis also urged Mexicans to move forward and become more committed in making their country a better land of opportunity. To become a nation where its citizens do not have to go to other countries to achieve their dreams or get into a life of crime to sustain their needs, TIME reports. Since President Enrique Pena Nieto launched an offensive campaign against the notorious Mexican drug cartels in 2006, approximately 100,000 people have already been killed with 27,000 disappearances.
