Albino Alligator Receives Acupuncture at Sao Paulo

Animal acupuncture especially on cats, dogs and horses is becoming increasingly common around the world, according to BBC News.

Due to 30 minutes of acupuncture treatment weekly, Bino, an Albino alligator in Sao Paulo Aquarium is regaining the use of his hind legs and tails caused by his lower-back problems.

"The acupuncture will alleviate his pain and keep all his vital functions going," said Rafael Gutierrez, a biologist at the aquarium where Bino is confined.

According to Telegraph, veterinarians in charge of caring for Bino should be extra cautious when inserting the needles into it back.

This requires an important safety measure and Bino's jaws full of sharp teeth should also be taped shut properly.

Bino was earlier reported to have been suffering from scoliosis and as a result he couldn't move his legs and tail, according to The Globe and Mail.

His attending veterinarians confirmed that Bino was born eight years ago with the condition and nothing has helped him alleviate the pain ever since.

"There are many zoo veterinarians who use acupuncture, a number of equine practitioners who treat race horses with acupuncture, it's proven to be a useful treatment, said Simon Flynn, executive director of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture.
