When confronted with a choice between drinking Coke from a glass bottle or from a plastic cup, many people who choose the former. Why? It simply tastes better. So what makes the difference? Here's the answer to the question as to why Coke tastes way better when it is in a glass bottle compared to plastic.
Science has everything to do with it. According to a Yahoo News report, one scientist who founded Science By Design has the answer. Sarah Risch explained that fizzy drinks like Coke will always have a certain reaction to the container where it is placed.
The reaction between the liquid and the container creates the difference in taste. She said, "While packaging and food companies work to prevent any interactions, they can occur."
When Coke is poured into a plastic bottle, some flavors get transferred into the drink. The reaction is instant because right after pouring it in plastic, you immediately notice a difference in taste after the first gulp, whereas with glass, the flavor is preserved. Glass will not be "transferring" any flavor onto the drink, at the same time, the fizz does not escape the glass bottle, according to The Sun.
Plastic is basically CO2 permeable, which means that fizz readily escapes plastic bottles as compared to glass bottles. Perhaps, when Coke has left factories in plastic containers, it may taste good, but as days pass, with plastic being CO2 permeable, the flavor might just escape, thereby rendering the drink not as flavorful.
With this revelation, it can now be understood why Coke does taste better when in a glass bottle. So if you would be drinking this beverage, better request the waiter to pour it in a glass, that way, you enjoy the full flavor of the soda, just the way it was meant to be.
