After Nina Dobrev left "The Vampire Diaries," rumors flooded the headlines that the TV series won't last. Dobrev's absence made a huge impact on the show's ratings as it continually dropped. Show-runners, including the lead actor Ian Somerholder, has been struggling to capture the viewer's interest.
Though the team managed to keep the show broadcasted, Julie Plec, the creator, told E! News on when would the final season be. Though she did not mention the exact date, she did state that the series will continue to run as long as Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley are still determined to work on the series.
"I finally realized that my destiny on this show, creatively, is tied in to Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. And I mean that in a really good way," Plec stated. "As long as those boys who I now consider my friends want to keep telling the story, then I won't walk away from telling the story."
"The Vampire Diaries" creator added that it is not for her to decide as to when the story would end.
"When they are ready to be done telling the story, I will put my pencil down and say that I'm done too, and then we will work together to end it in the best way possible," Plec added. "There's always things that could go wrong in that scenario, there's always pressure that can be put on, But... the three of us I'd like to think will make the creative decision of when the show should be over."
As for Ian Somerhalder's update, the actor has been making the headlines as it was reported that he will soon be leaving the show after Nina Dobrev left. These speculations, however, were never confirmed by Somerhalder nor his reps. Celeb Dirty Laundry then added that Somerhalder "begged" his fans on Twitter to watch "The Vampire Diaries" as he feared the show's looming cancellation.
In addition to Celeb Dirty Laundry's report, it was mentioned that the actor is struggling to keep his relationship with his wife, Nikki Reed, a float. However, the divorce rumors has been slammed by the couple several times.
