From the basic "please" and "thank you" to the prim and proper table manners, it may be a bit much to absorb, but training your child to be well-mannered at a young age is important. Seeing your child grow into a polite successful adult is something that you can be proud of.
There are countless reasons as to why you would need to mold your child in a way that he/she will grow up to be well-mannered. Robin Thompson, founder of the robin Thompson Charm School cited one of the best reasons as to why manners are important.
Thompson stated, "Behaving politely is a way of life, not just something you pull out when you're at a wedding or fancy restaurant. It's important to start as early as you can so manners become something a child does automatically, whether she is at home or away."
Listed below are the two basic structures in raising a well-mannered child.
Start at Home
How can a child learn if you yourself aren't doing it? Basic manners start at home. Children mimics whatever the adults are doing; from the way you would say the magic words such as the basic "please and thank you" to the way you'd properly behave on the table. It is important to be an example. It is impossible to teach your child to be a well-mannered adult, if you are not showing them how it should be done.
Be Consistent
Consistency is the key though there may be times when you'd eat out and forget to place the napkin on your lap, or slurp your soup a bit loudly once you'd realize that what you're doing isn't setting an example for the young ones, apologize and proceed by doing the proper behavior. Consistency is the key, by applying it every day, it will eventually transform into a habit.
