'Jason Bourne 2016' Release Date, News & Update: Matt Damon Being Compared to Jeremy Renner by Fans

Matt Damon is back with the fifth installment of "Jason Bourne 2016," which is set to be released on July 29. The film featured its original lead actor, who started the "Bourne" series in 2002 with "The Bourne Identity" and the return of director Paul Greengrass.

The first official trailer of the film was launched in the first quarter of Super Bowl 50, according to The Verge. The teaser featured the 45-year-old actor "bulked up," and evidently action packed with a lot of smashed cars.

Also, the distinct lines were here, like "why would he come back now?" "I remember everything" and "so what's your usual gym routine like, Matt?" Furthermore, enthusiasts of the action spy thriller film celebrated the return of the iconic character as they shared their comments on their social media pages, Korea Portal reported.

"Really excited for this!" one fan wrote. However, some even compared Damon's movie to Jeremy Renner's "The Bourne Legacy."

"This should make up for that rather dire, forgettable, fourth Bourne movie," a commentator said. "I absolutely love the previous Bourne films... but the Jeremy Renner one sucked, a shame too because Renner's a great actor."

Some stressed out that the film played by the 45-year-old Renner didn't do well for having a different actor and director. However, fans are now hoping that the charisma the "Bourne" series once has will return with the comeback of its lead star and director.

"It strayed too far from a winning formula," a fan said. "Now that Greengrass is back in the director's chair, I'm hoping the charm and magic of the first three will be there."

Meanwhile, "Jason Bourne 2016" is directed and written by Greengrass with Damon and Christopher Rouse. The upcoming movie, which is the sequel of 2007's "The Bourne Ultimatum," also stars Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones and Vincent Cassel.
