The box office record-smashing "Deadpool," a superhero movie based on one of Marvel comic books, may seem appealing and harmless to kids, however, parents are warned that the Ryan Reynolds film is not suitable for most young viewers. The latest flick of 20th Century Fox is loaded with foul language, violence, nudity, and sex.
CBS Los Angeles reported that several reviewers have warned parents that the movie, which is about a foul-mouthed masked man, is inappropriate for most young audiences. They said that profanity has been used in almost all conversations and there is a certain scene that showed full-frontal female nudity.
Derek Hillman, a father who watched the movie at the Arclight Hollywood, told CBSLA that he was unaware that the flick is packed with sex and nudity. He came to see the movie with his family, including his seven-year-old daughter.
"I did not know there was a lot of sex and nudity in this movie," Hillman said. "From the TV, all we saw was a comedy and a little Spiderman violence."
On the other hand, Lenore Douglas, another moviegoer, said that she will not be taking her kids to watch the movie. She however added it might be already okay for some teens to come and see it.
In an interview with Time before the release of the movie, Paul Wernick, one of the 'Deadpool' writers, had already warned parents about the 'R' rating of the film. "There's all these PG-13 superhero movies; we can be the apple among the oranges. So we wrote a crazy script."
"In terms of raunch, it's been dialed up, dialed back. We're a little bit unapologetic in how raunchy it is, because you shouldn't bring your 6-year-old to see this movie. Unless you're a very irresponsible parent," Wernick said.
According to the New York Times, 'Deadpool' sets new records for an R-rated film after it raked a whopping $135 million in its opening weekend. It has set the mark as the highest R-rated opening ever.
