Roy Lee, the American film producer of "The Lego Movie" and president of Vertigo Entertainment, is eyeing the Nintendo characters Mario and Link to be featured in "Lego 2." The 46-year-old announced his plan at the recent DICE 2016's "Franchise Fever: Pursuing Ideas and Big Audiences" panel this month.
According to Movie Web, it is the biggest dream of the director for so long and he thinks that the integration of the renowned characters of the world's largest video game company would result to be the ultimate movie. However, his only dilemma is he doesn't have the right to use any of the said creatures.
"Mine would be Nintendo. I think Zelda, Mario, and the whole universe of characters would be perfect for a Lego Movie type of [film]," he described his greatest work goal. "I don't have the rights to it, but I would love to. That would be my Holy Grail."
Moreover, CEO and president of Prime Universe Films Adrian Askarieh, on the other hand, concurred that Nintendo "has the most diverse universe." He, too, believed that if the plan pursues, it would be a "cinematic success" in a right way.
However, Lee is now busy preparing to develop and produce "The LEGO Batman Movie," "Ninjago" and the much-awaited "Adventure Time Movie." But he still wants Mario and Link to be featured in his film.
He, too, is hoping that with his long list of credentials and the evident success of "The Lego Movie," Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima will give him the rights to create his dream film, Movie News Guide reported. Meanwhile, there are swirling rumors that Nintendo and Netflix collaborated to feature a television series based on "The Legend of Zelda" game.
But, as of this writing, the two giant companies are not yet confirming any details about the news. For now, the known game developer is continuously creating mobile gameplays and discussing possible good movie deals.
