Whether parents like it or not, the time will come when their kids will start to date. However, parents can still implement some guidelines for their teens once they start dating.
Parenting Squad shared some important teen dating rules that parents need to set up for their teens to follow. These rules and guidelines could help protect the kids and their future.
1. The teens should introduce the "date" to both parents.
Even if you allow your teens to start dating, they still need to let you know about it. They also need to introduce to you their date. This is necessary so that both parties will get to know each other better.
2. Teens should share information with parents.
Parents should be given all the necessary information from their kids. Info about the date's name, address, school, contact number, history, parents and other family members really need to be given to parents. Honesty and open communication should be required.
3. Teens should know limitations.
Parents need to implement some limitations on their teen's dating. Parents should set rules on where the couple can hang out, how much time they can spend together every week, how much time they can talk on the phone or through the internet and all the do's and don'ts for dating.
4. Teens should be reminded about rules on social media.
Many teens become very careless with internet and social media use when they start dating. They post messages, stories and photos on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter that they might regret ever posting in the future.
Sending inappropriate messages, photos and videos through the phone, tablet or computer could also happen. Parents need to monitor their kids' use of technology and constantly remind them about its potential risks and dangers.
5. Teens should be able to trust their parents.
Teens usually become too afraid to talk about different concerns and issues with parents who are too strict and aggressive. "Speak to them without putting them down," Understanding Teenagers advised. "Listen to what they are really saying. Give them physical space and honor their right to personal privacy."
These teen dating rules that parents should implement are just general guidelines that parents could use. Every teen is different and it is up to the parents to enforce the rules that they believe will benefit their unique child.
