Most pet owners are delighted on the arrival of new puppies in their homes. The first things they do are hugged their puppies and of course, name them.
For some people naming a pet is not that important but in reality, it is. And naming your pet must be thought of carefully. The name of your pup will be his name throughout his entire life and he will carry it with you. That is the reason why you should name your pup wisely.
Pet MD and EHow share the following steps on how to name your puppy carefully and wisely:
1. Know the importance of a name.
People often times named their pet dogs for human names and sometimes after the names of their favorite celebrities. According to experts, this is inappropriate because dogs are not humans. For example, you named your dog after your cousin's name "Johny"; it will be awkward especially if you scold your dog and call his name for messing around the living area.
You must choose a name for your dog that would not embarrass someone especially if you are in public places. In some cases, there are people who name their dogs "Lady." And when you are in the park walking with your dog and suddenly she runs. The first thing you would do is call her name "Lady, come here!" You will be surprised that many would flock around you.
2. Name your dog for his personality, heritage or appearance.
Be wise in naming your pup. It is advisable that you name him based on his personality. If your pup seems a happy dog, you can name him "Happy" or is he is purely brown in color; you can call him "Brownie." It is not appropriate to call your Labrador dog "Tiny" when he is about 80 pounds. Think of a name that would really fit your pup.
3. Consider pup names with one or two syllables.
It is recommendable that you name your pup with only one or two syllables so that your pup can respond quickly. Dog trainers said that three syllable words are confusing for some dogs. Suggested names for dogs with one or two syllables are Rocky, Lucky, Jumbo, Buddy, Cosmo and many others.
Perfectly naming your dog will surely make him happy and wag his tail whenever you call him.
