Hideo Kojima News: 'Metal Gear' Creator Aims To Expand New Sony Exclusive, Guillermo Del Toro Collaboration May Be A Movie

"Metal Gear" creator Hideo Kojima, who recently signed with Sony to develop an exclusive PlayStation 4 game under Kojima Productions has big plans for his new game. Hideo Kojima hopes to expand the impact of his game into a game series, manga series, anime and action figures.

According to Den Of Geek, Hideo Kojima expressed a sense of liberation especially in being able to do things his way. The creator worked with game publisher Konami for 30 years before going solo with Kojima Productions. Happily, Hideo Kojima previewed during the DICE Summit in Las Vegas that his Kojima Productions game for Sony is a very big game being developed by a very small group of people.

"It's risky, because we're just starting up, so it probably would be better to go with something smaller-scale, maybe linear, but Sony is supporting us to make a big game that's edgy with a strong story that gives the player a lot of freedom, with new elements, and I don't know if that's possible," Kojima said.

VG24/7 reports that Hideo Kojima hopes to bring his new game into different media and merchandise. The media outlet points out that perhaps, Kojima had wanted to do the same with "Metal Gear" but had had to sit by and see "Metal Gear" constrained within those that were licensed by Konami.

Among the things foremost in fans' minds is when they will see Hideo Kojima and "Silent Hills" collaborator Guillermo Del Toro under the umbrella of a new project. Ars Technica recalls that Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro first met in 2008 when Del Toro promoted "Hell Boy 2" in Japan. They had been fast friends since. Hideo Kojima, on his part though, had been a fan of Del Toro's work long before 2008.

Both Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro confirmed that they will definitely work with each other again. While Hideo Kojima is willing for the next collaboration to either be a game or a movie, Guillermo Del Toro says he is quite happy to do whatever Kojima decides on. "I'll do whatever... he wants," Del Toro said. "The only things I want to work on are the ones that motivate me. The only things I want to do are where I'll have fun, and when we work together we always have fun."
