Simple Granola Recipes Even Picky Eaters Will Love

Granola is great as a breakfast or snack food. It is easy to prepare, but you have to admit, the kids may not like it so much. However, granola is also very healthy, which means that you have to go the extra mile to make sure that your family members would eat it.

Start with the basics such as combining the dry ingredients first -- six cups of old-fashioned or rolled oats and a cup or two of a mix of chopped almonds, pecans, and unsalted sunflower seeds in a large bowl.

Put a half cup brown sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla, half a cup of oil and half a cup of honey in a saucepan and put them on low heat. Once the sugar is dissolved, mix in the dry ingredients and stir well until everything is coated properly.

When done, spread all the ingredients on a jelly roll or roasting pan and bake for 20 minutes. Stir the mix once again and bake for another 15-20 minutes. The granola should have an even golden color.

Remove from the oven and let the pan cool. Stir once in awhile while the mix is cooling to avoid clumps.

Now, here are the ways to make your granola recipe more appealing for the kids, as noted by All About Moms. You may want to try them out.

Less Nuts: Not everyone is a fan of nuts. Not all can even eat nuts. So for those who don't want almonds and pecans in their granola, make the recipe more crunchy with rice krispy treats, or any crispy rice cereal, for that matter.

Add more seeds: While sunflower seeds make for a yummy breakfast treat, don't limit yourself to them. Sesame and pumpkin seeds are also great additions to the mix.

More Fruits: Once the granola has finished cooling, add another layer of flavor and texture by having fruit in the mix. Some ideas include raisins, craisins -- any dried fruit that you really love.

So, how will you prepare your granola this morning?
