A Toddler Is Sentenced To Life Imprisonment In Egypt For Murder And Vandalism

A 3-year-old boy was found guilty of three counts of murder, illegal possession of firearms and vandalism by the Egyptian Military Court on Feb. 16, and was sentenced to life imprisonment. It is not until Feb. 23 that his story has created an uproar given the rare case that the toddler is involved with.

According to The New York Times, the Egyptian court didn't even consider the fact that they are convicting a toddler, Ahmed Mansour Qorany Sharara, for killing three people and causing damage to public property, not to mention government buildings.

Ahmed Mansour was not the only one who was found guilty of a crime that took place back in 2013 as the court also convicted 115 people who they think were also responsible for it. The child was first suspected to be a part of a group called Muslim Brotherhood, one of the known bandits in the area who were said to have spearheaded the crime leading to the protest and a lot of chaos in the midst of a coups d'état. It was the year when Egyptian president, Mohamed Morsi, was ousted from his position and was imprisoned for multiple charges including espionage and for inciting deadly violence just to name a few.

During that time, Ahmed Mansour was only 16 months old. His father, Mansour Qorany Sharara, has been on the run from the government since he was taken into custody when his son was first arrested. But he finally came back home after almost 18 months of hiding.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that despite the sentence made by the court to the 3-year-old boy, government officials reached out to the family saying the baby nor his father would be arrested. Apparently, "it was a case of mistaken identity."

Police were said to be looking out for a 16-year-old student who has a similar name, but authorities still are not sure if they are getting the right culprit this time, as another 51-year-old man seems to be also a suspect bearing the same name, who also happens to be the child's uncle.
