The Derrico quintuplets were born at the Banner Desert Medical Center in Arizona, making the total number of kids in the household, nine, according to the Examiner.
Prior to the birth of their babies on September 11, Deon and Evonne Derrico have thought of names that start with the letter D for their five newborns. Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daician and Daiten are currently at the Cardon Children's Medical Center.
The Derrico family already has four children, but Deon explained the quintuplets are a blessing. The two boys and three girls will remain in the neonatal intensive care unit. Although the Derricos are from Las Vegas, they moved to Arizona for treatment while Evonne was pregnant.
The Derrico quintuplets only weigh a couple of pounds each, but their mother was able to carry them past eight months, and this is a rare occurrence with multiple births. The family does not plan on staying in Arizona and will return to Nevada after the quintuplets can leave the hospital.
The family plans to make some changes once the quintuplets can go home. For example, their current van is not big enough for nine children, so they are thinking of getting a bigger car. They are also going to use the home-theater room in their Las Vegas home for the quintuplets.
The couple states they did not use fertility drugs to get pregnant and initially thought they would only have four children. The fifth baby was a surprise that showed up during one of the mother's exams. The Derrico quintuplets are considered to be generally healthy.
