Parenting Styles: Utah Father Wears Tiny Shorts to Teach Teenage Daughter a Lesson in Modest Dressing

Parents surely know how to get things done when their children refuse to follow the rules set by them. One such parent, a dad from Utah, actually wore tiny shorts to teach his teenage daughter about modest dressing.

Scott Mackintosh says his family has some rules about dressing modestly and there are restrictions on wearing midriff or low-cut shirts, extremely tiny shorts and at times sleeveless shirts, except for going to the beach.

But Scott has a teenage daughter, Myley Macintosh, who according to him dresses, up "inappropriately" and "immodestly." On his wife's blog, the father explained the entire story of how he, in an attempt to make Myley understand about modest dressing, wore shorts and went out for a family dinner.

As a ritual, the Mackintosh family goes out Monday evenings to spend time together. "I heard my wife ask our daughter if she would please change into some longer shorts before leaving. She said "NO!" Instead of turning her response and disrespectful attitude into a major battle, I decided to make a "small" statement on how her short-shorts maybe aren't as "cute" as she thinks!" Scott wrote.

He went to the bedroom and cut off some of his old pants into shorts and decided to wear them with his 'Best Dad Ever' t-shirt for the outing. However, the sight of their father wearing teeny-weeny shorts went unnoticed by his two children as they were busy with their cell phones.

Dad being dad, he managed to catch his children's attention and got a surprised response from his son. "Oh my gosh, look at dad!" his son said. This prompted a question from his daughter asking him the reason he was dressed like that. But, to her father's dismay, Myley shrugged it off saying, "Oh well, I don't care."

The family went to the restaurant where they received strange looks for Scott's dress-up. This did not seem to bother Myley and then Scott decided to take it to the next level.

After dining at the restaurant, he took the rest of the family to an amusement park where he attracted a lot of stares and "pointing fingers." When he saw his daughter did not budge even a bit he decided to pull in to a stall. The embarrassed daughter quickly reacted saying that she wouldn't go to the stall with him. "Uh, no! We are NOT going in!" I said "Sure we are, let's go!" "No!" She said, "Let's go through the drive up. We went in, but she stayed in the car. She had had enough and did not want to go through any further embarrassment," Scott wrote.

However, Scott said he does not know if the message about modest dressing was conveyed to Myley. "But no matter if social media gets the story mixed up and twisted, my daughter will always know that her dad loves her and cares about her enough to make a fool out of himself," he concluded.
