When a woman's period gets delayed, the fastest way to figure whether or not she's pregnant is to pee on a pregnancy test kit. For a couple, however, their bun in the oven surprise came through their FitBit watch.
Reddit User YoungPTone (real name David Trinidad) posted on a forum looking for advice on how to fix his wife's FitBit, saying that his her resting heartbeat had been unusually high for a couple of days. He thought the device was wonky, so he asked around how to reset it.
"My wife's Fitbit is showing her heartbeat being consistently high over the last few days... I'm not sure if something is wrong with the sensor," David posted. His wife, Ivonne, usually has an average heart rate measured in the mid-70s, but for several days, the number began rising.
There were dozens of responses regarding his "defective" device, but one user posted, "Has she experienced anything really stressful in the last few days or is it a possibility she is pregnant?" That he could be a dad is not the news he'd think the heartbeat monitor could indicate.
However, this is when David realized that Ivonne could indeed be pregnant as they have recently started trying to have a baby. When it dawned on him, he said, "I was definitely very scared and very excited and felt a rush of all those emotions at once." So the couple picked up pregnancy tests that night and they all came back positive -- all ten of them.
CNN reached out to the company upon learning the story. Thus, Fitbit representatives said they were happy about David's and Ivonne's pregnancy. However, they did not provide an official statement regarding the happy incident. The company has been aware of several different customer stories regarding how their fitness tracker has detected other health issues, but the claims have not been verified.
