Pregnancy brings a lot of changes to a woman's body. One of the changes that women hate is the excess fats and extra pounds gained during the course of their pregnancy.
WebMD shared some weight loss tips after giving birth. These tips can help new moms regain their pre-pregnancy bodies in a couple of months.
1. Diet moderately.
Do not go into extreme diet plans by starving yourself. You need all the nutrients and energy provided by food for recovery from childbirth and to take care of your baby.
Eat small frequent meals throughout the day. Make sure that the contents of your meal are healthy and nutritious.
2. Breastfeed.
Breastfeeding is beneficial for both the mother and the baby. Breastfeeding strengthens your baby's immune system and overall health and well-being. Some studies have shown that consistent and regular breastfeeding can even help mothers lose weight.
3. Drink plenty of water.
Drinking lots of water every day can speed up a person's metabolism which is important in losing weight. "If you're drinking enough fluids, your urine should be relatively clear, and you should be going to the bathroom about every three to four hours," WebMD shared.
4. Be physically active.
Diet is not enough to lose weight. You also need regular exercise in order to lose weight. Exercise helps new moms combat post-partum depression, insomnia and weight gain.
There is no need to go into the gym and perform difficult exercises. Walking and doing simple chores are enough for new moms.
5. Get plenty of sleep.
Lack of sleep is known to cause weight gain. "One explanation might be that sleep duration affects hormones regulating hunger -- ghrelin and leptin -- and stimulates the appetite," Mayo Clinic explained. "Another contributing factor might be that lack of sleep leads to fatigue and results in less physical activity."
New moms should remember that it takes time for the benefits of these weight loss tips after giving birth to become visible. Be patient, consistent and focus on taking care of your baby's health.
