Man Who Murdered High Schooler Over Pair of Yeezy Sneakers Lunges at Victim's Father in Court

A Florida murderer who was found guilty of killing a teenage girl over a pair of Yeezys lunged at the victim's father in court.

Adrian Cosby, 23, jumped out of his courtroom chair and lunged toward the family of 18-year-old Andrea Camps Lacayo after the victim's father called him an "animal" for shooting and killing the teen in 2020.

"You are the epitome of evil and darkness that this world represents," Camps Lacayo's father said, as quoted by NBC News Miami. "There's only one place animals like you belong, and that's in prison for the rest of your life."

"What the f— you talking about, b—" Cosby replied when he leaped towards the victim's father, per the Miami Herald.

About six officers intervened and dragged Cosby away from the courtroom following his outburst.

Why Did Cosby Murder the Teen?

Camps Lacayo and her boyfriend, Sergio Berben, were selling personal belongings to make money during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This included three pairs of Adidas' Yeezy worth $935.

On April 7, Cosby and his accomplice, George Walton, contacted the couple to purchase the sneakers. Both were 19 at the time.

The group met outside an abandoned house in Homestead. Walton initially asked to try a pair of Yeezys on, but Berben refused and asked to see the payment first. Cosby then approached the couple's car and shot both Camps Lacayo and Berben.

Both were struck, with a bullet grazing Berben's arm, while Camps Locayo had been shot at least once in the torso. Berben drove off the scene but pulled over on the side of the road after noticing his girlfriend fading in and out of consciousness. First responders rushed the 18-year-old girl to the hospital, where she died during surgery.

Berben survived the shooting and testified in court against Cosby.

What Charges Were Given to Cosby and Walton?

In February 2024, Walton was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for his role in the shooting and the attempted robbery, the New York Post reported.

Cosby was found guilty of felony murder, attempted murder, and attempted robbery by a jury last Friday, October 25. He will now face two life sentences for the murder of Camps Lacayo and a concurrent 25-year sentence for attempted robbery.
